Born in 1954 in Istanbul, Ömer Bora MURATHANOĞLU received his undergraduate degree from the Department of Economics and Finance at Istanbul University in 1977. He had his MBA degree in 1986.

In 2010, Ömer Bora Murathanoğlu retired from The Shell Company of Turkey Limited where he worked in various managerial positions in finance department for 25 years.
